LES DENNIS has reached a Crossroads in his life after splitting from wife AMANDA HOLDEN.

No, I don’t mean he has big decisions to make about his future — he has signed up for a role in the cheesy Midlands soap.

The former host of game show Family Fortunes, who talked non- stop about his therapist on Celebrity Big Brother, will play a smooth-talking shrink Dr Richmond.

The teatime show returns to ITV1 next week and Les will join the cast as soon as he returns from holiday in South Africa.

Crossroads bosses were keen to hand him a chance to boost his career following his marriage break-up.

Show boss YVON GRACE told me: “Les’s character is a really nice, down-to-earth, warm-hearted psychiatrist. I thought this role would suit his character really well. The storyline is that he gets involved with maid Beena Shah, who basically becomes a bunny boiler. He is sent in to sort her out.

“Les has been initially cast for around a week’s worth of shows but there is a lot of opportunity for him to become a regular.”

Last year Les turned down the chance to play a gay hairdresser in the soap to appear in Celebrity Big Brother.

Crossroads has been given a huge revamp by new show boss Yvon, who viewers may remember as “Evil Yvon”, the tough judge in the ITV hunt for Emmerdale actors, Soapstars.

She added: “The show is going to be sexy and glam, a sort of teatime Dallas.

“The women are beautiful, the men are gorgeous and the plots fantastic.”

Yvon axed 15 of last year’s cast when she joined in August.

She has drafted in JANE ASHER, EMMA NOBLE LINDA ROBSON and, erm, LIONEL BLAIR.

She has also demolished last year’s hotel and replaced it with a new luxury set.

A show insider said: “Les has a lot of friends at the Crossroads studio in Nottingham because that’s where he filmed Family Fortunes.”

Some reckoned that Les’ career was over after he left the game show. His private life seemed over too last month when he and Amanda announced they were to split after seven years together.

But I revealed yesterday how Les reckons he dumped Amanda and that he is already over her.

Cutting It star Amanda has moved into a flash new £800,000 flat in London’s St John’s Wood.

But Les, who told the nation how he had been through years of therapy after Amanda’s infidelity with NEIL MORRISSEY, told pals he doesn’t need sympathy and wants to move on.

He said: “I am over her. She wanted us to spend Christmas and New Year together but I said no.

“I don’t want everybody to feel sorry for me. I’m just trying to get on with life. Its the beginning of a new chapter for me."
